AgTech Bundaberg

Extension Activities

BFVG has been funded by Central Queensland University (CQUni) through the Hinkler AgTech Initiative to coordinate and manage the Agriculture Industry engagement and extension activities undertaken by the Initiative with all agriculture sectors of the Hinkler region.  The core objectives of the Initiative are to facilitate testing of commercially available ‘AgTech’ products and services with agribusinesses in the Hinkler electorate to address real Industry needs and challenges, provide related information and resources to support adoption within the agricultural Industry, and support the growth of a progressive and advanced AgTech “ecosystem” for the region’s producers and AgTech companies.

An Industry Needs Assessment process is already underway to help ensure relevance of AgTech solutions to the region’s agribusinesses, and will continue for the duration of the Initiative.  BFVG is keen to hear directly from the region’s food and fibre producers to ensure critical Industry needs are identified, any barriers to adoption are understood, and that the technologies tested provide ‘real world’ commercial and innovative solutions.

So what is ‘AgTech’?  It is in essence using digital technologies to help agribusinesses make faster and/or better informed decisions.  Digital technologies can provide tools and knowledge for supporting business decisions throughout the supply chain, improve productivity and sustainability, increase efficiencies, monitor and improve product integrity, or even help to meet some regulatory requirements.

The Bundaberg Region and greater Wide Bay Burnett is recognised as the nation’s most productive, diverse and fastest growing agricultural regions.  On-going implementation of the latest technology and practices by the region’s agribusinesses will help ensure they remain globally competitive and sustainable, and maintain their rank among the world’s top agriculture industry leaders and innovators.

The Hinkler AgTech Initiative is funded through the Hinkler Regional Deal which is a collaboration between the Australian Government, Bundaberg Regional Council and Fraser Coast Regional Council.  The aim of the Hinkler AgTech Initiative is to improve the region’s agricultural productivity and profitability through greater uptake of AgTech.  Further information on the Initiative and associated activities can be found at http://hinkleragtech.org.au/.
