Controlled Traffic Farming: a new management concept for Queensland Horticulture

This was a two year joint project between Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Qld) and was finalised in 2013.

This project contributed to improving soil conditions through Controlled Traffic Farming in Queensland horticulture production systems, particularly vegetables. Project activities included on-farm demonstration sites in Bundaberg, Bowen and the Lockyer Valley, economic analyses to identify cost benefits to producers, field days and the development of case studies and recommendations for Controlled Traffic Farming in horticulture.

Adoption of variable rate technology in Queenslands intensive vegetable production systems

This project was a two year collaboration of Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers and Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (Qld).  It will contribute to sustainable, productive and efficient horticultural industry in Australia by developing and optimising technologies to evaluate in-field spatial variabilitly. Variable rate methodologies will be demonstrated to maximise vegetable production.
A number of grower-collaborators in the Bundaberg Region have been engaged to trial crop sensing techologoy and yield monitoring.
