Bundaberg has long been a favourite location for the Syngenta biology and tech services team to trial new chemistry and demonstrate new products. With a plethora of tree and vegetable crops on offer, as well as a perfect climate for insects and diseases, it is an ideal location for Syngenta’s new product development and label extensions of existing products.

Bundaberg was one of the key areas where new blockbuster insecticide MINECTO FORTE was trialled and was one of the first areas to showcase it at Syngenta’s GrowMore site on Darren Zunker’s property in Bundaberg in a crop of Syngenta’s seedless watermelon variety Javelin. Bundaberg has since become a key location for MINECTO FORTE sales; as local Syngenta representative Neil Bauer states “there is literally nothing on the market that does what MINECTO FORTE does, it is a unique product controlling, chewing and sucking pests in cucurbit and fruiting vegetable crops.”

MINECTO FORTE

Minecto formed a key part of Syngenta’s GrowMore program that involved local growers last season. The program was developed to demonstrate the value of Syngenta’s product range. Also in the program were: ORONDIS FLEXI, TERVIGO, BRAVO WEATHER STIK, AGRAL, PROCLAIM OPTI, VERTIMEC PRO and CHESS.

ORONDIS FLEXI

Orondis Flexi launched in 2019, is a new downy mildew fungicide with two modes of action. Used as part of a protectant spray program, it prevents disease from becoming established. It is registered across a range of crops and has shown exceptional results in Queensland trials.

As Neil explained: “The intent of the GrowMore program was to give growers the opportunity to try new chemistry along with our existing crop protection range, giving growers a complete Syngenta spray programme on an array of crops. Having the opportunity to use these products in their own environment, through their own equipment has resulted in a greater level of confidence with all of our products.”

Bundaberg growers will soon have another product in their fight against disease control. It will be the first location in Australia to trial another new Syngenta fungicide in commercial conditions. This pipeline product should be registered early in 2022 and although it has been trialled extensively, Bundaberg will be the first location where growers will be able to experience it in field situation.

Make sure you speak with your local agronomist today about these new innovations Syngenta is working with local growers to develop. And give Neil a call on 0409 780 241 to make sure you’re part of a preview panel for our latest pipeline product!
