Online Soil Health Manual
Monday, 28 June 2010
Vegetable producers can now learn how to improve the long-term profitability of their businesses by getting smarter with their soil, with just the click of a button.
The Soil health for vegetable production in Australia manual is a joint initiative of Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) and Department of Environment and Resource Management.
The manual can be accessed at www.deedi.qld.gov.au. The easiest way to find it is to type “vegetable soil health” into the search box of the website.
The manual is designed for vegetable growers interested in soil management and soil health, and consultants, agronomists and other service providers that support these growers.
It provides some ideas and tools for re-interpreting a standard soil test to take into account all aspects of soil health, and describes extra measurements you might add to your arsenal of tools for monitoring soil health. It also identifies the constraints of specific soils used to grow vegetables and explains how to best manage these constraints for good soil health.
